THE ERA OF INDEPENDENT FILMMAKING

Over the past many years movies have evolved over their content and style. Independence in movies around the world has allowed the audience to witness a totally New Era of Films. Independent movies or Indie are basically films that are produced outside the major film studios system. These are feature films or short films which have unique content or an artistic view in it. Usually, these films are made with a considerably low budget than major studio films.

Independent movies are mostly directed by independent filmmakers and produced and distributed by independent entertainment companies. These sorts of movies are released and screened at local, national, or international film festivals. They can be released worldwide through major marketing campaigns.

An independent film can give a neck to neck competition to big studio films if it has distinguished story and style and proper funding and promotion.

Art should have no bounds it should have independence so as to ensure it fully expresses itself. Cinema is purely a form of art and independence in it gives a chance to put down a unique and personal view. Independent Films are often created to make us think on certain subjects or issues and features and challenging storylines that are more realistic and focused unlike in major studio films.

Over the years, numerous amazing and mesmerizing independent movies have made their way just to mention some, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The shape of water, Lady Bird, Brooklyn, the lunchbox, Masaan, Piku, Manto, Das dev, etc. Every movie speaks and delivers a message. Almost all the independent movies hit the conscience and influence to think in a certain way and leave a big impression through its Content, filmmaking, and obviously the acting delivered by the actors.

For any movie, Finance is an indispensable aspect. No filmmakers can execute a movie until they have some financers got their back. Now, independent film productions raise money from various sources. There are private investors from which funding can be secured but usually, these movies are funded by arts agencies. Even television broadcasters like BBC Films and Film Four also fund independent movies. Now in the contemporary era of the internet, it has enabled independent filmmakers to seek funding from online donations or crowdfunding.

There are many brilliant independent movie filmmakers around the world who have written and made amazing films for instance, Roger Corman directed fabulous movies like (It conquered the world, The little shop of horrors, New World Pictures), Sam Fuller films include (The Naked Kiss, House of Bamboo, The Command), Michael Moore brought up movies like( The Big One, Sicko, Canadian Bacon). The list of independent Filmmakers also includes numerous Indians too, such as Nandita Das made Manto, Leena Yadav directed Rajma Chawal and Samarth Mahajan directed Unreserved etc.

Distribution companies get work to get independent films release on a national and international level. These films tend to have a limited theatrical release in comparison to studio films, though there are many cinemas throughout the world for audiences and fans of independent films.

As these independent movies have engaged and truly fascinated a huge audience around the world over time, many new platforms have come up to where one can enjoy watching plenty of indie movies on their phones, laptops, T.Vs, etc. One of the most famous ones is NETFLIX, many indies are directed by their own production system and released on this site or platform where people can watch it, well to name a few, Solo, The Endless Trench, A Sun, The Platform, What Jack did to you?, Lady Jay, Jaaon Kaha Bata Ae Dil, Divines, Bulbbul, etc. As Independent movies have developed a large number of sincere viewers or audience, many large budget movie actors have also begun to involve and work in these indie movies. This truly draws more audiences towards such movies and this eventually brings even greater success to indies.

Independent movies have no doubt emerged and impacted more and more number of viewers. These movies vest the potential of obliging its audience to consider and ponder over a subject and this can eventually lead to a change in people’s mindset and ultimately in society. This is the most prominent reason for independent movies having content that is influencing, grave, ethical, mind-boggling, and uniquely artistic.
